To create an impactful life, we must look at Who are we today? and Who can we become tomorrow?

These questions set the stage for the life that we can build.

All you need is a vision and a process to get there.

The Vision is the ideal of what we strive for. The aspiration.

The Process is similar to the brush stroke an artist makes while crafting a piece of artwork. — every step in the process adds to your vision.

Within the process one will to decode the interpretation of the project ‘while in process’ and at itscompletion

The way YOU decode is different and varies from the way others decode. It is very much like viewing a piece of art. No one person will have the same opinion or interpretation.

Why is this important? This awareness reinforces that we are all unique and we bring something unique to the table in our relationships, our work and in our life.

If you want to build an impactful life that creates meaning and purpose, then it’s important to know who you are, know your strengths and know your weaknesses.

Know what makes you tick, what inspires you and what makes you unravel.

Understand your external and internal triggers, your external and internal blocks.

And know how your life experiences have led to your present day decision-making.

Let’s take a look at that on a deeper level…

Self-talk helps create an impactful life

The self-talk you engage in decides how you function everyday.

If you knew that you could be or attain  (input your greatest life’s desire ________) then why have you not pursued or achieved it yet

Or if you pursued it and something got in your way, why did you stop your pursuit?

Or if you are on the mission to pursue it and you still are not making substantial progress, then what’s delaying this?

Are you often blocked by the mere distractions that you face day to day? Leaving you behind or prioritizing others’ agendas over your own?

Are you blocked by negative self-talk which allows our internal judge and saboteurs to take over and make us feel guilt, shame, regret, frustration, anger or some other annoying negative emotion and we stop, in our tracks and even give up on making advances to our hopes and dreams?

The mind is an amazing human function but one area most of us rarely pay attention to are the feelings that we feel. And it makes sense that over time we try to submerge negative feelings or experiences for even content, settling feelings, giving up on the exciting, adventure or robust joyous feelings because our negative self-talk tells us how undeserving we are, how we are not good enough, instilling all types of fears (Snyder, Benjamin, “10 Biggest Fears Holding You Back From Success”, cnbc.com, 18 May 2017, https://www.cnbc.com/2017/05/18/the-10-biggest-fears-holding-you-back-from-success.html, accessed 24 October 2022.)

Fear can hold you back from creating an impactful life
  • The fear of inadequacy. One of the first things people fear is not being skilled enough.
  • The fear of uncertainty.
  • The fear of failure.
  • The fear of rejection.
  • The fear of missing out.
  • The fear of change.
  • The fear of losing control.
  • The fear of being judged.
  • The fear of something bad happening.
  • The fear of getting hurt.

So how does self-talk work and why does it help in the creation of an impactful life?

When we experience an interaction with a a situation or a person, how we view that situation or person sends a signal to our brain which stimulates a brain response, either from our limbic brain (primitive brain) or in the prefrontal cortex.

If that thought made you feel fear, frustration, or even anger, then your limbic brain has been triggered. If that thought created feelings of content, happiness, or even joy, then your prefrontal cortex has been triggered.

We are typically a combination of right and left brain yet we are usually dominant on one side.

Left brain folks like to solve problems with reasoning and logic..they are analytical and are objective oriented. Right brainers know they solve problems with creativity and intuition. They are more subjective oriented.
